With several ways to light your freshwater fish aquarium it makes sense to cover as many as possible, especially for the beginner to this hobby. Maintenance for your aquarium is of paramount importance and freshwater aquarium lighting is no exception. Here we take a look at incandescent and fluorescent lighting.

Incandescent lighting is such that you see around your own home such as desk lamps, ordinary bulbs and spot lights. These give off sufficient light for ourselves and indeed for the smallest of aquariums where they also offer adequate heat for the fish inside. But any tank larger, incandescent lighting is simply not enough.

Fluorescent lighting is the most commonly used these days for freshwater aquarium lighting. The tubes come in just about any size you need and of course any wattage you may need. These also come in any colour you want ranging from red to that beautiful hue-blue colour. You can even customise your lighting using a multi tube fixture so that you can have different colours if you want them, or you can have a single tube fixture for the single colour.

So you can see that freshwater aquarium lighting using fluorescent tubes is no longer limited to one standard method as you are now able to mix and match your lighting for your particular aquarium. And don't forget that if in any doubt at all always ask at your local pet shop for specific requirements you may have. They are normally excellent, helpful and usually have lots of relevant knowledge.
